Wanting a Weekend Warrior challenge or the chance to prove yourself in a 3.8km Ironman Swim in Caloundra? Then the weekend of the 28th April and 29th April 2012 should see your destination being Caloundra swim Festivals on the Sunshine Coast.
King of the Coast Ocean Swim Festival – Caloundra, Sunshine Coast
Taking place over this April weekend, the Kings of the Coast Ocean Swim Festival, being held in Caloundra on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, will surely test your mettle and give you the opportunity to conquer iconic open water distances in one big weekend of surf, sun and swimming! All you need to bring is the stamina to go the distance, and of course, those all important goggles!
If the Kings of the Coast Ocean Swim Festival 3.8km Ironman Swim sounds a bit too much for you, or you fancy getting a team of Weekend Warriors together, how about starting with the new Olympic distance 1500m Relay Challenge? This challenge consists of three laps of a 500m course with swimmers exiting the water after each lap to complete a short beach sprint (50-100m).
The 500m course also allows any Weekend Warriors to choose their own distance. Compete as an individual (1500m), a pair (500m & 1000m) or as a three person team with each swimmer completing one lap of the 500m course.
This great new format provides a fantastic spectacle with swimmers entering and exiting the surf three times before crossing the finish line. This means more opportunities for your fellow Weekend Warriors to cheer you on and also allowing you to bask in the glory of the crowd!
Following the Kings of the Coast Ocean Swim Festival 1500m Relay Challenge is the 300m Kid’s Surf Dash. Proudly sponsored by Hot 91.1fm this challenge is the perfect introduction to open water swimming for kids, whilst giving them an opportunity to enjoy the thrill of a beach sprint finish! This is a free, fun event for kids aged 10 years and older.
The end of day one of the Kings of the Coast Ocean Swim Festival completes with the duly earned presentations, but for those potential Kings of the Coast, Weekend Warriors or loyal supporters wanting to make the most of this fantastic weekend event, even if you just want overnight.
